Harvesting Blueberries!!

It's time to harvest the Blueberries in the Willamette Valley. We have 7 bushes and they are packed with berries!!! YUM!!!

Blueberries are native to eastern North America and grow fabulous here in the Pacific Northwest. They are a deciduous shrub and need cool, moist, well drained acid soil. And they grow easily. I don't do much to take care of them other than weeding.

I was told when I first put my plants in to purchase different varieties to get them to fruit better. I have never had a problem with my bushes bearing berries!!! And this year we do seem to have a bumper crop!!

I like to freeze them in little zip-lock sandwich baggies, one cup to a bag. That way, when I want to make some blueberry muffins or blueberry pancakes, they are all measured and ready for baking!!! YUM again!!

I've had plenty of help with picking from my grand-daughter. She got up on Saturday and headed out to the back garden to get this bowl picked.

The grand-son prefers eating the ones that I pick, and when his bowl becomes empty, he switches to my bowl!!!

Cooper is telling the blueberry to say cheese to the camera!!!
These were really yummy!!!
