Hoya in the greenhouse

This is the Wikipedia description of the Hoya plant:
Hoya is an Asclepiad genus of 200–300 species of tropical plants in the family Apocynaceae (Dogbane). Most are native to Asia including IndiaChinaThailandMalaysia, andIndonesia, There is a great diversity of species in the Philippines, and species in PolynesiaNew Guinea, and Australia.
Common names for this genus are waxplantwaxvinewaxflower or simply hoya. This genus was named by botanist Robert Brown, in honour of his friend, botanist Thomas Hoy.

Hoyas are evergreen perennial creepers or vines or rarely, shrubs. They often grow epiphytically on trees; some grow terrestrially, or occasionally in rocky areas. They climb by twining, and with the employment of adventitious roots. Larger species grow 1–18 m (3–59 ft), or more, with suitable support in trees. They have simple entire leaves, arranged in an opposite pattern, that are typically succulent. Leaves may exhibit a variety of forms, and may be smooth, felted or hairy; veination may be prominent or not, and many species have leaf surfaces flecked with irregular small silvery spots.

I have just one Hoya in the greenhouse and it is in bloom now. It is so very lovely!! I really should see if I can find another one to add to my very small collection as it is an easy care plant and so amazing when in bloom.
I love the little stars in the center of the blooms!!! Amazing!!!

This is what the plant looks like, it is a vine. It could be climbing all over the greenhouse if I allowed it to!!.
I don't know what species mine is, it was given to me a very long time ago from a friend.
I took these photos Sunday morning. Soon after that, we were on our way to Green Peter to do some fishing!! We had a great day, didn't catch anything, but had a lovely day on the water!!!

The lake is just about 13 miles from where we live, short, easy drive!!!

Take care everyone and enjoy the Earth!!! Martha

  1. Martha, I too have a hoya...actually two in a pot. One is the green wax leaf and the other a variegated leaf. It has been vigorously blooming for a while and sending out crawlers everywhere. I finally went out and retrieved a couple of John's bamboo stakes in an attempt to control the plant...lovely old plant isn't it?

  2. Gorgeous bloom! I thought of you last week - seems like nearly every window in San Francisco had an orchid in it. The hotel had them in the lobby and they were so pretty we had to check to see if they were real.

I used to love to go fishing from a boat, especially trolling. I guess gas is too expensive to do that any more, but it was so pleasant.
