Growing orchids under lights
I am attempting to grow orchids in a tiny waterless building, my she shed, that is only 8' x 8'.
I do not know how this will go but so far I am getting new roots growing on some of the orchids, and they are really healthy roots.
Because there is no water in the building I am hand watering out of watering cans that I fill up in the house and then walk across the lawn to the orchid shed.
I just bought a new watering can that holds three gallons. The other one is a two gallon can, so I should be able to water all the orchids and the other plants in there.
We recently had some very cold weather in the low 30's, even down to 29 degreees. The orchid shed went down to about 57 degrees which is ok but not perfect. I really would like to keep it around 60 degrees and up.
It will be an interesting winter to see how it goes in there. So far I am watering about every 6 days. The humidity goes up to about 65% when I water, but by the end of the 6 days it is about 50-55%.
So I do have work to get it perfect in there but I am happy with the results so far.
These are the lights I have on the shelving on the right.Barrina T5 Grow Lights, 5000K White Full Spectrum LED Grow Lights, 2ft 80W (8 x 10W) Plant Grow Lights for Indoor Plants, Plug and Play, 8-Pack I got them from Amazon. The center shelving is a mini greenhouse that came with lights. Stay tuned, I will post if I get any blooms in there!!!
