I'm testing an art project for my next day with grandson Cooper. This is the end result. I have some changes to make in the process, but it turned out OK.
This is what I did:
PREPARE SURFACE FOR PAINTING-PLASTIC GARBAGE BAG TAPED DOWN TO COUNTER |
PICK A VARIETY OF SIZES OF FLAT LEAVES |
HAVE GRANDSON GROUP THEM BY SIZE. WHEN COOPER IS WORKING ON THIS PROJECT, WE WILL DO SMALL, MEDIUM LARGE!! NO INBETWEENS!!! |
GATHER PAINTBRUSHES |
AND PAINTS, AND I THINK NOT THE FABRIC PAINTS. BETTER DO WASHABLE NEXT TIME!! |
WHEN COOPER AND I PAINT, WE POUR THE PAINT INTO A PAPER PLATE-AKA-ARTIST PALETTE!! |
PAINT SURFACE-LIGHT TO DARK |
I USED AN ADHESIVE SPRAY, OUT SIDE. 404 MAKES THE LEAVES ACT LIKE A STICKY NOTE. THEY HAVE TO SET FOR 5 MINUTES BEFORE USING. I WOULD DO THE SPRAYING OR HAVE COOPER WEAR A MASK. |
PLACE LEAVES ON PAINTED SURFACE, PAINT WITH NEXT DARKER PAINT-ORANGE |
ADD MORE LEAVES-PAINT WITH RED |
MORE LEAVES-PAINT WITH PURPLE |
ADD MORE LEAVES |
PAINT THE DARKEST-BLACK-AND LET SET FOR AT LEAST 30 MINUTES BEFORE THE REVEAL. |
AND DONE. |
So, for Cooper, I think doing just three layers would be enough. Using watercolors will be better for him. Not sure about the spray adhesive. I have another one that I can try to see if it releases from the paper better. Some of the leaves didn't want to depart from the paper.
All in all, fun project with a very cool look. I am happy with it.
My friend Dayle does Negative Painting which is amazing and beautiful. I wanted to come up with a way to do something similar with Cooper. I may try this technique with wool next!!! We will see :^)
What do you think???
Enjoy the earth and take care my friends!!! Martha
